Fluid Inclusion (microthermometric) studies are an essential and valuable component of the dataset gathered for research/exploration on ore deposits. These studies mainly focus on heating/freezing experiments conducted on ore and rock forming minerals collected from the target area. The obtained data is mainly used to understand the nature and evolution of the ore forming fluids and genesis of the studied deposit.

To achieve this, a Linkam THMSG600 heating/freezing stage mounted on a Leica DM LP microscope (up to 50x magnification) is installed in the Fluid Inclusion and Ore Microscopy-Petrography Laboratory. The THMSG600 is one of the most widely used heating and freezing microscope stages.  The THMS600 is used in many applications where high heating/freezing rates and 0.1°C accuracy and stability are needed. This stage is suitable for heating work up to 600°C, and freezing work down to -196°C.  The stage is controlled by a TMS94 programmable controller. Digital images of fluid inclusions are captured by a PixeLink PL-A662 digital camera.

Doubly polished sections for fluid inclusion studies are prepared by Struers RotoPol-35/PdM-Force-20 grinding/polishing machine.  RotoPol-35 is suitable to work with 300 mm diameter grinding/polishing discs. With variable speeds from 40 to 600 rpm, it is possible to carry out grinding, lapping and polishing processes on a variety of geological samples.

Fluid Inclusion and Ore Microscopy-Petrography Laboratory also includes two reflected-transmitted polarizing light microscopes for petrographic studies on ore and rock samples. Both Leica DM2500P (with Leica DFC290 digital camera) and Nikon E400POL (with Nikon coolpix 995 digital camera) microscopes are being used for thin and polished section determinations. Polished samples for ore mineralogy /petrography are prepared by Struers TegraPol-15 grinding/ polishing machine with variable speeds (40-600 rpm in steps of 10 rpm) and with a disc of 200 mm diameter.
